How to Turn a Child’s Drawing into a Shirt Gift

Keep the little details that make it theirs.

A family of four, consisting of a father, mother, and two children, posing together in front of a house. They are all wearing matching white t-shirts with a cartoon illustration of a family and the text "Our family, through their eyes" printed on them.

Choose a drawing with a story

The most meaningful drawing is not necessarily the neatest one. Look for a family picture, a familiar pet or an everyday scene the child wants to explain. The unusual proportions and unexpected colors can be the very details that make a parent recognize this chapter of childhood.

Prepare a clear copy of the original

Keep the drawing flat and capture it in good light, including the whole artwork. Avoid hiding parts of the picture with a hand or cropping off a name. Check the Etsy listing for the current file and submission instructions rather than assuming every custom-art product uses the same process.

Decide who the gift is for

A parent may love a picture of the family; a grandparent may treasure a scene from a visit. Let the child explain why they chose it. If the design includes a name or year, confirm the wording with the family before submitting it.

Plan the reveal

A child handing over the original drawing and the shirt together can make the connection easy to understand. Keep the original safe as part of the keepsake. Confirm the selected garment size and Etsy delivery estimate before choosing the date of the presentation.
